What Men Want
(March 4, 2007)
Last night, I was out for dinner to celebrate a good friend's upcoming birthday. There were five men and one young lady present. I have a great deal of respect and admiration for her. She is a true rose among thorns. The conversation reached the question that is frequently asked on occassions where women are thus outnumbered: "What do women want?"
The young lady gave an honest and succinct reply. "A man we don't have to change." By this, if I may be presumptuous, I believe she meant a mature gentleman.
Fully within her rights, she then asked, "What do men want?"
Many answers were provided. Some were in jest. Some should have been. I tried to give a proper answer but I don't think I gave it enough thought.
So here it is.
What men want.
More precisely....what I want. I can't claim to speak for all men, but I can speak for myself.
I want a lady. I don't want a "girl" or a "chick" or a "womyn". I want someone with a proper sense of modesty, who holds true Christian values, and who has a healthy love for herself.
I want a woman who has ambitions, dreams and goals. Some of those goals should be outside the home. One of her dreams ought to involve children and grandchildren.
I want a romantic who can be spontaneous and practical. A broad sense of humour and a strong laugh are a must. Someone who believes that having fun is a high piority. A fine and learned conversationalist.
Most of all, I want a partnership. Not an equal one, rather one that fluctuates with our needs. Someone who will be there and not leave. A lady with whom to share the responsibility of attaining sainthood for ourselves and our family.
Does this answer the question?
